Wake Forest Looks For 3-0 Start to ACC Play Against NC State
• Wake Forest will look to improve upon its now program-record shutout streak Saturday night at home against NC State.
• Dating back to 1980, the Demon Deacons hold a 24-11-5 record all-time against the Wolfpack and have not lost to NC State since falling 2-1 against then-No. 17 NC State on Oct. 30, 2005.
Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons notched two goals in the first half Tuesday night to pick up a 2-0 victory over Florida International.
• Alec Ferrell notched his third shutout in the win. In three games, the redshirt-senior captain has yet to give up a goal.
• Jon Bakero scored the game-winner in the 24th minute. After a corner kick that bounced up and down in the box, Sam Raben headed a ball to Bakero and the junior put the chance into the open net for his second of the season and second in as many games.
• Bruno Lapa notched his first-career goal in the 45th minute just 10 seconds before halftime. Ian Harkes sent a pass to Ricky Greensfelder from the top of the box to the left side. Greensfelder then crossed through the box and found Lapa cutting to the back post for the score.
• In the contest, Wake Forest moved its now program-record shutout streak to six in a row. The Deacs had recorded five straight shutouts on three previous occasions. In the process, the Deacs have not allowed a goal in 638:28, which sits less than two minutes off the program record. By shutting out NC State for the first 92 seconds on Saturday, Wake Forest will snap that record.
Scouting the Wolfpack
• Last time out, NC State snapped its four-game losing skid with a 3-1 win over Liberty in Raleigh on Tuesday night. Entering the game, the Wolfpack had been shutout in three-straight games against Syracuse, Elon and Virginia Tech, dropping the three games by a combined score of 7-0.
• Prior to the victory over Liberty, NC State's only other win came on Aug. 28 against James Madison.
• Ade Taiwo leads NC State with three goals on the season thus far. He is tied with Julius Duchscherer with a team-high six points, as Duchsherer has two goals and two assists through seven games for the Wolfpack.
• Alex McCauley has played all of the 630 minutes this season for NC State in goal. He and the Wolfpack defense have allowed 14 goals thus far on the year, as NC State is being outscored 14-8 by its opponents thus far.
Can't Lose If They Don't Score
• Through eight games games, Wake Forest has allowed just two goals. The Deacs are one of six teams nationally to have allowed two goals or less this season.
• Currently, Wake Forest is on a shutout streak of 638:28 since it last gave up a goal against Cal Poly. The streak is the third streak of 300-plus minutes and second of 500-plus minutes since head coach Bobby Muuss took over prior to 2015.
• The current streak is now the second-best in program history. Last year, Wake Forest went 562:29 without allowing a goal from Sept. 26 to Oct. 23. Wake Forest is 92 seconds of game action from breaking the program record, which was set in 1992 when the Deacs went 639:59 between goals.
• Since the start of 2015, Wake Forest has only allowed three teams to score more than once in a game (Florida International (8/30/15), Louisville (10/30/15) and Stanford (12/3/15)).
Try To Get One By Us
• Wake Forest has allowed just 15 goals since the start of the 2015 season.
• That number stands alone as the fourth-fewest in the nation since the start of last season. Only Loyola Chicago (10), Denver (12), and Western Michigan (14) have allowed fewer.
• Just six teams nationally have allowed two goals or less this season and only San Diego State has been scored on just once, as Wake Forest's 0.24 GAA stands second in the country.
• For measure, 19 programs this season alone have already allowed 15 or more goals and 57 of the 203 Division I programs allowed at least 30 goals during the 2015 campaign.
Looking Ahead
• Following Saturday's game, Wake Forest will go on the road for three straight contests against Davidson, Clemson and Notre Dame. The trip marks the longest road swing of the season for the Deacs.
• Tuesday's game at Davidson will be aired on the A-10 Network and the matches at Clemson (Sept. 30) and Notre Dame (Oct. 8) will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
