Wake Forest Head Coach Danny Manning
Opening Statement…
"Today was a game where Luke Kennard made a lot of shots. He made a tough one at the end and he carried that team to a victory. I thought we did good things in the first half defensively. When a team comes out and shoots this type of percentage on you in the second half, we didn't make the same type of plays we did in the first half defensively. They missed some shots they normally make. We have to come out and mirror the first half a little bit more than we did tonight. I give those guys credit, they did make shots."
On the final play…
"We just wanted to go attack the basket. Attack the basket and we can force help- kick it to a shooter or get it to the basket. Bryant Crawford tried to get to the basket, but they had that soft pressure. I thought he did a good job of trying to get in. He just couldn't get it up on the rim. If it doesn't go in, John Collins has a chance to tip it in"
On 32 free throw attempts…
"We're getting paint touches and being aggressive. We shot it well."
On preparing for Boston College…
"We'll go back and watch tape, talk about the mistakes, talk about the things we did well and what we have to build upon. We did enough things well to win the game. We just weren't able to win the game. To us that's disappointing. I thought our guys played hard. There was great energy and the building was juiced."
Duke Interim Head Coach Jeff Capel
Opening Statement...
"First of all, I'm really proud of our guys. We fought. We fought for 40 minutes and it wasn't pretty the whole time, but the final result was pretty. We overcame adversity with a lot of foul trouble, different lineups, guys playing with fouls and a deficit but we were able down the stretch to find ways to get some stops and then we rolled the hot hand of Luke Kennard. I'm really proud of our guys. We beat a really good basketball team. Wake's a team that can really score the ball. Collins is as talented as any big we've faced this year, I think any big in college basketball. They have really good guards, they're a good team. It was a great atmosphere here this afternoon and for us to be able to get our first road win in an atmosphere like this is really good."
On Duke's defense in the second half...
"We didn't give up straight line drives. Our talk was better, our ball-screen defense was better, then we were able to contest shots and in our first-shot defense we were able to get rebounds."
On what he saw from Duke's players in the second half...
"I saw a team that believed. I saw a team that was incredibly together and played with emotion. Our huddles were great and the players were great with each other. They were holding each other accountable. That's what I saw and it was a really great thing to see."
