
Deacs Finish Competition in Two-Meet Weekend

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Demon Deacons finished a split-meet weekend with five event titles and 24 top-10 finishes in the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational and the Razorback Invitational.
At the Razorback Invitational, Rob Heppenstall took second place in the men's 800m Invitational with a time of 1:47.63. Simon Holden finished fourth in the 800m Run, which was good for ninth overall, with a time of 1:50.69. Kathryn Lazarchick placed third in the women's 1 Mile Invitational with a time of 4:44.82, just over a second shy of her personal best time of 4:43.73.
Alva Hicks kicked off the weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with a first-place finish in the women's weight throw. Hicks had a best throw of 19.00m, which replaced her previous personal best of 18.99m (62' 3.75") set her freshman season. Freshman Jessica Molina placed 10th in her first collegiate weight throw event with a best of 15.41m (50' 6.75"). Emily Campbell took seventh place in the shot put with a best throw of 12.98m (42' 7").
Alexandria Florent tied for first place in the high jump after clearing the 1.70m (5' 7") bar, her second first place finish of the season.
Amy Collins tied for sixth place in the long jump with a best jump of 5.40m (17' 8.75") while Jordan Banks took 11th with a best of 5.33m (17' 6").
On the track, Ellie Abrahamson brought home her first mile event title of the season with a time of 5:00.89. The Deacs dominated the event with sophomores Isabelle Harouche and Beatrice Boylan placing second and fourth, respectively. Lara-Ann Schwede finished second in the 800m Run with a time of 2:15.93. Jenna Truedson finished fifth in the 3000m Run with a time of 10:20.78 to round out the distance events.
Hunter Roberts took eighth place in the 60m Hurdles prelims with a time of 8.69 while teammate Collins took 24th to enter semifinals as well. In the semifinals, Roberts finished fifth with a time of 8.70 while Collins took 19th with a time of 9.38. Roberts would go on to win the event with a time of 8.70. Roberts also took 19th in the 60m Dash.
Sarah Johnson finished 23rd in the 200m Dash with a time of 25.92 while Maya Hinton finished 26th in the open 400m Dash with a time of 1:01.34.
The 4x400m Relay team consisting of Maya Hinton, Collins, Johnson and Banks finished first in their heat with a time of 3:56.24, good for eighth overall.
In the men's field events, Charlie Ionata finished first in the men's weight throw for the third time this season with a best throw of 19.60m (64' 3.75"). Kyle Johnson placed third in the event with a best of 17.81m (58' 5.25"). Max Adams placed seventh in the shot put with a best throw of 15.95m (52' 4").
On the track side, Harry Warnick took fourth place in the men's mile with a time of 4:20.22. Angelos Vasileiou took sixth place in the event, closely followed by Craig Corti in seventh. Andrew Fea rounded out the event with a 13th place finish.
John Archie took second place in the 800m with a time of 1:54.54 and teammate Nick Beglane took eighth with a time of 1:58.43.
Kaleb Bryant finished 28th in his first 200m Dash for the black and gold with a time of 22.99.
The men's 4x400m unit consisting of Archie, Beglane, Bryant and Fea finished ninth overall with a time of 3:25.25.
The Demon Deacons return to Winston-Salem for the Camel City Invitational on Feb. 3 & 4 at the JDL Fast Track.
