
Wake Forest Falls to Drake in Paradise Jam Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Wake Forest suffered a 77-74 loss to Drake in its opening game of the 2017 Paradise Jam Friday night at the Vines Center. The Demon Deacons fell to 0-3 with the loss, the first time since 1967-68 that they have dropped the opening three games of the season.
Doral Moore led Wake Forest, recording his first career double-double. The junior center had 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Four other Demon Deacons also scored in double figures as Chaundee Brown had 12 points, Keyshawn Woods and Mitchell Wilbekin each had 11 points and Bryant Crawford scored 10 points to go with nine assists.
Reed Timmer led Drake (2-0) with 29 points, while Graham Woodward added 20 points off the bench.
The Demon Deacons jumped out to a strong start and took a 35-24 lead with 4:30 left in the first half. However, a late 12-3 run by the Bulldogs cut the margin to 38-36 at the break.
After Drake took a one-point lead early in the second half, the Deacs went on a 12-3 run to take a 50-42 lead at the first media timeout of the half. The Bulldogs answered with a 7-0 run to draw within one at 50-49. The game of runs continued as Wake Forest put together another, a 10-0 run to push the lead to double figures at 60-49. It was answered by an 11-0 Drake run to give the Bulldogs a 63-62 lead with just over 5:00 to play. Drake pushed the lead to eight in the final minute before the Deacs scored five straight points and had a chance to tie with a three-point attempt at the buzzer.
Wake Forest will play Quinnipiac in the consolation bracket on Saturday. Game time at the Vines Center is 2:30 p.m.
