
Politz Named First Team Scholar All-American

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest senior captain Kevin Politz was named a first team Scholar All-American by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday afternoon.
The honor recognizes the success of student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom. A 3.3 grade-point average is requred to be eligible.
In the classroom, Politz is a mathematical business major and computer science minor with a 3.94 GPA. He also earned first team Scholar All-Region honors last year. He has been on the Dean's List every semester and has had a perfect 4.0 GPA in three of his six completed semesters so far.
On the field, he was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. A team captain, he anchored a back line which totaled 13 shutouts this year and allowed just 13 goals in 23 games. He also scored the game-winning goal against then-No. 12 Providence. In his four-year career, he started 71 of the 72 games he played in and helped the Deacs post more than 40 shutouts.
Politz previously was named the CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year, as well as a first team Academic All-America honoree, tabbing him as the top scholar-athlete in the country. United Soccer Coaches previously picked Politz as a third team All-American, recognizing his on-field achievements.
