WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest completed the regular season sweep over NC State with an 88-58 victory Saturday afternoon at the LJVM Coliseum.
The sweep is the first against the Wolfpack since the 2004-05 season. The Deacs also defeated Boston College twice this season, marking the first time since 2008-09 the Deacs recorded series wins over two teams.
The 30-point margin of victory over NC State is the most since Dec. 5, 1980 when the Deacs defeated the Wolfpack 87-57 while the win is the largest ACC win by the Deacs since a 39-point victory over Florida State on Feb. 12, 2005. It is also the third-largest margin of victory in the LJVM Coliseum.
John Collins recorded his eighth consecutive 20-point game with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting. His streak is the longest in the ACC this season and the longest in the league since 2013-14 while the eight 20-point games are the most by a Deac in conference play since Justin Gray in 2003-04.
Keyshawn Woods matched a career high five triples in his 19-point performance while Bryant Crawford recorded his 17th consecutive double figure game with 17 points. Austin Arians wrapped up the double-digit Deacs with 10 points, his 10th double figure game of the season.
Collins kicked off the game with a quick six points for the black and gold. The Deacs (15-10, 6-7 ACC) steadily built their way up to a 21-10 lead with a combination of a 7-0 run and a strong defensive showing that limited the Wolfpack (14-12, 3-10 ACC) to 0-for-6 from the field. The Wolfpack would go on to shoot 36.7 percent in the first half. The Deacs remained in control and closed out the half on an 8-0 run for a 44-24 lead, their largest halftime lead of the season.
The Deacs opened the second half on a 6-0 run and built a 26-point advantage over the Wolfpack with 15:02 remaining in the contest. Wake Forest stayed hot in the field, extending their lead to 33 with under 10 minutes to go. The lead was too much for NC State to overcome as the Deacs sealed the 88-58 victory.
The Deacs hit the road next to face Clemson on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
