WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams will open their indoor postseasons this week at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Notre Dame is hosting the meet, which will run Feb. 23-25 at the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend, Ind.
Competition will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday morning with the Pentathlon. The schedule calls for an 11 a.m. start on Friday with the continuation of the Heptathlon and 11 a.m. on Saturday with the women's Shot Put.
ACC Network Extra will provide coverage of the event on Friday from 3:30-7:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-4 p.m.
Last year at the ACC Championships, the Deacon men placed 11th as a team while the women took 14th.
In total, 20 Demon Deacons will attend the meet this year, 12 women and eight men. The Deacs will be represented in eight events on the women's side and five events on the men's side.
Robert Heppenstall is looking to repeat his historic performance at last season's Championships in the 800m Run. Heppenstall broke the school record, meet record and Canadian Junior Indoor record with his 1:47.35 first-place performance. Simon Holden is also competing in the 800m Run for the Black and Gold after finishing fifth in the event last year.
Sophomore Mitchell Dyer will compete in the men's 3000m while sophomore Craig Corti and senior Alexander Giacco will compete in the men's 5000m for the second consecutive season.
In the field, Max Adams will compete in the men's Shot Put. Last season, Adams finished 11th in the event. Charlie Ionata, who recently set the school record in the Weight Throw, and Kyle Johnson will compete in the men's Weight Throw. Ionata finished eighth last season while Johnson finished 13th in the event.
On the women's side, Kathryn Lazarchick will compete for the Demon Deacons in the 1 Mile Run and 3000m. Last season, Lazarchick competed in the 1 Mile Run where she finished seventh.
Also competing in the 3000m are Beatrice Boylan and Ellie Abrahamson. Boylan, a sophomore, is competing in the Championships for the first time while Abrahamson, a senior, competed in the event last season.
Hunter Roberts is looking to break a school record in the 60m Hurdles. Roberts clocked a time of 8.54 in the event at the Camel City Invitational, just over a tenth of a second away from the school record of 8.43.
In the field, Amy Collins and Alexandria Florent are set to represent the Deacs in the High Jump, both of whom competed in the Championships last year for the event.
Collins is also set to compete in the pentathlon with teammate Jordan Banks. The duo competed at the Tobacco Road Multis at North Carolina earlier this season where they placed second and fourth, respectively.
Sophomore Tesia Kempski is competing in the Pole Vault. Kempski is coming off a career performance where she set a personal best by clearing the 3.80m bar at the UCS Invitational.
Also in the field, Jessica Molina and Casidy Callahan are due to compete in the Shot Put. In her last time out, Molina set a personal best in the event with a toss of 14.13m while Howard competed in the Weight Throw in the Championships last year.
Competing in the Weight Throw this year are Molina, Alva Hicks and Andrea Vahoua. At last year's Championships, Hicks finished 13th in the event while Vahoua finished 15th.
Pending the outcome of this week, the final meet slated for the 2016-17 indoor season are the NCAA Championships held March 9-11 in College Station, Texas.
