
Demon Deacons Conclude Day One of ACC Championships

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Three Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors in the first day of competition at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame.
Alva Hicks received First Team All-ACC honors with her third-place finish in the women's Weight Throw. Her best mark of 19.43m (63' 9") set a new school record, a record Hicks previously held at 19.00m (62' 4"). Amy Collins was named to the Second Team All-ACC with her sixth-place finish in the Pentathlon while Charlie Ionata garnered Second Team honors with his sixth-place finish in the men's Weight Throw.
Collins and Jordan Banks kicked off the three-day competition in the Pentathlon. Collins finished second in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:14.43. She also finished fifth in the High Jump, eighth in the Shot Put, ninth in the Long Jump and 11th in the 60m Hurdles. Her final score of 3808 was good for sixth place and just five points shy of matching the school record. Banks finished 13th in the event with 3121 points after finishing 12th in the 800m, 13th in the Long Jump, High Jump and Shot Put and 14th in the 60m Hurdles.
In the men's Weight Throw, Ionata finished sixth with a best mark of 20.22m (66' 4.5") to garner Second Team honors while Kyle Johnson finished 10th in the event with a throw of 18.13m (59' 5.75").
On the women's side of the Weight Throw, Hicks shattered the school record that she had previously set at 19.00m (62' 4"). Her final throw of today's competition was 19.43m (63' 9"), good for third place and First Team honors. Teammates Jessica Molina and Andrea Vahoua finished 11th and 14th with throws of 15.76m (51' 8.5") and 15.56m (51' 0.75), respectively.
After day one, the women's team is in fifth place with nine points while the men are in ninth place with three points.
Competition resumes Friday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m. with the 5000m Run.
