GOTHENBURG, Sweden – Wake Forest four-year starter Sarah Teegarden has signed a professional contract with Kopparbergs Goteborg FC in Sweden.
The team competes in the Damallsvenskan (Women's Premier Division), the top pro league in Sweden.
"Sarah has worked incredibly hard for this professional contract and deserves it," head coach Tony da Luz said. "She was our most consistent performer over her four years at Wake Forest - incredibly reliable, disciplined, tough and possesses excellent character and work ethic. Her high percentage possession, ball-winning and smart distribution will fit well into the Swedish League. Goteborg FC has just made a great decision by signing Sarah. We wish her all the best in her pro career."
The two-year team captain was the only member of her graduating class to start all 75 games of her career. The defensive midfielder finished with 23 points on nine goals and five assists, as well as three game-winning scores.
"Sarah could have been in a pre-season camp [in the NWSL], and there were at least three clubs there who were interested in her," Goteborg FC director Lars Svensson said. "We are delighted that she has chosen to come to us instead...Sarah will be important for us and moreover, it is always good to strengthen competition in the squad."
Her first professional competition is expected to be in a friendly against Eskilstuna on March 12.
