GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest senior captain Jacori Hayes was named the 2016 ACC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
He was joined on the All-ACC Academic Team by senior Ian Harkes, junior Kevin Politz and sophomore Brad Dunwell.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
A four-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree and physics major, Hayes was also named the Senior CLASS Award winner, as well as an NSCAA first team All-American and Scholar All-American. He was selected 18th overall by FC Dallas in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft after finishing his career with 45 points on 15 goals and 15 assists in 81 games. He set new career-highs with eight goals and 19 points in 2016, leading the Demon Deacons to an NCAA runner-up finish.
Harkes is also a four-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree. A fellow captain and a business and enterprise management major, Harkes claimed the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is given to the top player in collegiate soccer. The D.C. United homegrown signee wrapped up his career in Old Gold & Black with 36 points on nine goals and 18 assists in 82 career games.
Politz, a first-time honoree and mathematical business major, helped anchor a back line which posted 14 shutouts and a 0.46 goals-against average. He started all 25 games and added an assist from the center back position.
Dunwell joins the All-ACC Academic Team for the second-straight season. The defensive midfielder also started all 25 contests, and was one off the team lead with three assists. He has made 47 starts in his first two years as a Deacon, recording eight total assists.
The Deacs finished the 2016 season with a 19-3-3 overall record, claiming the ACC regular season and tournament titles. Wake Forest won its way to the NCAA College Cup, where it beat Denver in the semifinals before falling to Stanford in the championship game in PKs.
