GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Senior Ellie Abrahamson and sophomore Mimi Smith were named to the 2016 All-ACC Academic Cross Country team as announced on Thursday, Feb. 9, by Commissioner John Swofford.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season were also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Abrahamson is now a two-time honoree of the All-ACC Academic team, having also received the recognition last year as a junior. For Smith, it is her first time receiving the honor.
A senior from Carlsbad, Calif., Abrahamson ran in four of the Demon Deacons' six meets in 2016. She was the second Deac to finish in two races this past year, finishing 16th overall at the Pre-National Invitational and 29th overall at the NCAA Southeast Regional. Her time of 21:15.9 at the Southeast Regional on Nov. 11 was a season-best time in the 6k for Abrahamson.
Smith, a native of Wilmette, Ill., ran in four meets this past fall and was the team's top finisher in the final three meets to close out the season. Her best finish was a 13th-place showing a the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 15, and ran a season-best time of 20:50.4 at the 2016 ACC Championship to finish 28th overall.
