Deacs Take Four Event Titles at JDL College Team Challenge

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field programs combined for four event titles and 14 top-10 finishes in the JDL College Team Challenge held Thursday, Feb. 9 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.

Peter Millsaps started the night for the Demon Deacons with a career performance in the 3,000m. He finished first in the event with a time of 8:46.52, replacing his previous indoor best of 8:49.10 set at the UCS Invitational last season. Freshman Myers McKinney placed third in the event with a time of 8:51.01, his best of the season. Jack McGowen, Alex Turner and Andrew Magiera finished 10th, 13th and 14th, respectively, all with their best times of the season.

In the men's 800m, John Archie placed first with a time of 1:54.22, narrowly replacing a previous indoor best of 1:54.54 set at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational earlier this year. Teammate Andrew Fea finished second in the event with a time of 1:55.33 while Nick Beglane and Dakota Greenwalt finished sixth and seventh.

The men's 4x400m Relay team consisting of Archie, Beglane, Greenwalt and Bryant finished second with a time of 3:27.21.

Kaleb Bryant finished 14th in the 60m Dash with a time of 7.31 while Elijah Shalaway and Mitchell Earley finished 23rd and 24th in their first competition of the season. Bryant also competed in the 200m Dash where he finished ninth with a time of 23.27.

Alex Delgado and Robbie Barr finished 12th and 13th in the Mile to round out the men's track events.

In the field, Charlie Ionata claimed his fourth event title of the season in the weight throw with a toss of 19.87m (65' 2.25") while Kyle Johnson finished fourth with a throw of 16.49m (54' 1.25").

On the women's side, Alva Hicks took her second event title of the season in the women's Weight Throw with a best throw of 18.13m (59' 5.75"). Andrea Vahoua finished second in the event, her highest finish of the season, with a throw of 16.77m (55' 0.25") while Jessica Molina took fifth with a throw of 15.39m (50' 6").

Madeline Ward finished 11th in the women's 400m with a time of 1:01.23, her best of the season, while Mary Grace Hash finished 20th with a time of 1:06.12 in her first competition.

The Demon Deacons head to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the Liberty Elite Invitational Feb. 10th and 11th. Events begin at 2 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
