COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Wake Forest men's track and field sophomore Robert Heppenstall qualified for the final in the 800m run at the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday night at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium in College Station, Texas.
Heppenstall finished fourth in his heat with a time of 1:47.96 and fourth overall in the field of 16 runners. The top three runners in each heat and the next two fastest times advanced to Saturday's finals and Heppenstall's time was better than that of any runner in the first heat.
The automatic qualifiers, top three in each heat, were Emmanuel Korir and Michael Saruni of UTEP, Drew Piazza of Virginia Tech, Daniel Kuhn of Indiana, Joseph White of Georgetown and Isaiah Harris of Penn State. Like Heppenstall, Blair Henderson of LSU qualified based on time.
Korir paced all runners with a time of 1:47.62.
