Deacs Open Outdoor Season at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track programs wrapped up competition at the Bill Webb Combined Events and opened the first day of compeition at the Bob Davidson Spring Kick-Off Friday afternoon.

The Demon Deacons finished the day with two event titles and 10 top-five finishes. Nine Demon Deacons also set 10 personal bests during the competition.

Amy Collins and Jordan Banks kicked off the weekend in the Bill Webb Combined Events Women's Heptathlon where Collins finished first with 4716 points and Banks took eighth with 3772 points.

Collins finished first in the Heptathlon 200m with a time of 26.34, Long Jump with a mark of 5.35m and 800m run with a time of 2:20.97 on her way to the first-place overall finish. She also finished third in the 100m Hurdles at 15.25 and High Jump with a cleared height of 1.59m, fifth in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.74m and sixth in the Javelin with a throw of 27.85m.

Banks took second in the Heptathlon 200m with a time of 26.64, third in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.96m and fourth in the 800m with personal best a time of 2:27.24. Banks also went sixth in the Shot Put at 9.13m, ninth in the High Jump after clearing 1.38m and tenth in the 100m Hurdles at 18.23 and the Javelin at 21.96m.

Hunter Roberts finished the day with two personal bests after taking second in the 100m Hurdles and 15th in the 100m Dash in the Bob Davidson Spring Kick-Off. Roberts finished the hurdles with a time of 13.83 after finishing first in the prelims with a personal best time of 13.73 and took 15th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.43, another personal best.

In their first track competition for the Demon Deacon men, John Armstrong and Jalen Latter finished the men's 100m Dash with times of 11.08 and 11.16, respectively.

Maya Hinton recorded a time of 59.15 in the 400m, good for 17th, while Mary Grace Hash finished 50th with a personal best time of 1:05.87. On the men's side Kaleb Bryant took 17th with a time of 50.58.

On the distance side, the Deacs held their own in the women's 1500m. Jenna Truedson took the silver with a personal best time of 4:37.63 while Lara-Ann Schwede finished fourth with a personal best time of 4:38.92. Catherine Allen landed a 10th-place finish with a time of 4:45.46, Sarah Fahmy finished at 4:47.72 and Gabby Merritt finished 23rd with a personal best time of 5:02.39.

The Demon Deacons also dominated the men's 1500m. Alex Giacco shaved three seconds off his previous personal best to take the gold with a time of 3:55.95. The Deacs went 1-2-3 as Andrew Fea crossed second and Craig Corti took third at 3:59.62 and 4:01.46, both personal bests. Running unattached, Jack Tiernan finished 30th in the event with a time of 4:20.10.

Seven Deacs competed in their first-ever 1500m event at the outdoor season opener. Robbie Barr took fifth with a time of 4:04.28 while Peter Millsaps and Alex Turner finished in 7th and 8th at 4:07.16 and 4:07.46. Myers McKinney, who finished with a time of 4:12.04, and Alex Delgado, who landed a time of 4:12.14, took 16th and 17th while Andrew Magiera and Jack McGowan finished 23rd and 24th at 4:15.41 and 4:16.47.

In the field, Alexandria Florent tied for second place in the High Jump after clearing the 1.60m bar. In the Shot Put, Jessica Molina took fourth with a best mark of 13.92m. Casidy Howard took 17th with a mark of 12.21m and Andrea Vahoua took 18th with a throw of 12.02m to round out the day.

The Demon Deacons wrap up the Bob Davidson Spring Kick-Off Saturday, March 18. Events begin at 9 a.m. with the men's hammer throw.
