Spring Soccer: Demon Deacons Wrap Up Spring Slate

April 22: Wake Forest 1, Tennessee 1
The Deacs ended their spring slate with a 1-1 draw against Tennessee. Due to storms in the area, the Deacs kicked off just 15 minutes after their first competition of the day against Alabama and played two, 30-minute halves. In the 15th minute, Bri Carney played the ball to Kahla Seymour who then beat her defender to shoot past the Tennessee keeper. The Volunteers would respond in the the 26th minute off a Wake Forest turnover that led to a 1v1 matchup with Nonie Frishette. Tennessee made it past Frishette to tie the game 1-all.
April 22: Alabama 1, Wake Forest 0
The Demon Deacons played two, 35-minute halves against Alabama in Knoxville, Tennessee on Saturday, April 22. The Deacs started the contest an hour earlier than scheduled due to storms in the area. Alabama scored on an own goal in just the 3rd minute after shooting a ball that deflected off a Wake Forest defender and past Lindsay Preston. The Deacs could not respond. Preston played in goal the first half and Nonie Frishette played the second half.
April 8: Wake Forest 1, High Point 1
In the second contest of the day, the Demon Deacons managed to tie the High Point Panthers in a game consisting of two, 35-minute halves. The Deacs struck early with a goal by Bayley Feist in the 8th minute. However, a penalty called the goal back to keep the score 0-all. It would take until the 50th minute for another team to find the net when High Point snuck past Lindsay Preston. The Demon Deacons evened the score in the 68th minute after Ally Haran capitalized on a bad clearance by a High Point defender. Nonie Frishette played the first half in goal while Preston took the second half.
April 8: Wake Forest 2, South Carolina 1
In a contest consisting of two, 30-minute halves, the Demon Deacons defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks 2-1 Saturday, April 8. South Carolina landed on the board first in only the 4th minute. The Demon Deacons would respond in the 18th minute as Kahla Seymour drove down the left side of the field and served the ball to Reci Smith, who headed it past the keeper. The Deacs doubled their score in the 32nd minute when Maddie Huster shot the ball towards Sarah Medina. Medina then served it into Claudia Day who passed to Kahla Seymour and Seymour took the shot. Originally deflected, Seymour was able to rebound the ball and land it back in the net. Lindsay Preston played the first half in goal for the Deacs and Nonie Frishette took the second half.
April 1: NC Courage 3, Wake Forest 1
The Demon Deacons fell to the NC Courage 3-1 in a 90-minute contest Saturday, April 1st. Bri Carney opened the scoring in the 24th minute off an NC Courage turnover when she managed to turn and shoot the ball over goalie Katelyn Rowland's head straight into the net. The Deacs entered halftime up 1-0. The Demon Deacon defense continued to clamp down until the Courage managed to flick the ball under goalie Lindsay Preston to tie the score 1-all in the 58th minute. From there, the Courage scored twice more in the 65th and 82nd minute. Preston played all 90 minutes in goal for the Deacs while Madison Hammond, Ally Haran, Madison Baumgardner, Bayley Feist, Peyton Perea and Maddie Huster played all 90 minutes as well.
March 24: Wake Forest 4, East Tennessee State 1
Just one minute in to the second contest of the day, Maddie Huster placed the ball in front of the goal off a corner kick, allowing Claudia Day to tap in the goal with an assist from Haley Jordahl. ETSU evened the score in the 8th minute but the Deacs responded quickly as a sharp pass from Bri Carney allowed Bayley Feist to find the net. In the 17th minute, Day took a hard shot just inside of the 18-yard line but it was saved by the ETSU keeper. However, Carney ran in, managed to rebound the ball to finish the goal. In the final minute of the contest, ETSU cleared a corner taken by Peyton Perea. However, Perea controlled the clearance outside and chipped it back to Day who headed it home to finish the contest 4-1. Nonie Frishette was the Deacs' keeper for all 60 minutes, allowing one goal.
March 24: Wake Forest 4, Appalachian State 0
Claudia Day scored two goals and Lindsay Preston recorded a shutout on the way to a 4-0 over Appalachian State Saturday, March 24. Assisted by Reci Smith, Day tapped in the ball to open the scoring for the Demon Deacons in just the third minute and doubled the score for the Deacs in the 20th minute with another goal. In the 30th minute, Kahla Seymour played a ball in the air behind Appalachian State's back line but it was Bayley Feist who made a run towards the penalty spot and found the goal. The Deacs wrapped up the scoring in the 53rd minute when Sarah Medina split the back four with a pass to Haley Jordahl, who slid the ball past the keeper. The teams played two, thirty-minute halves and Preston played all 60 minutes in goal.
March 18: Wake Forest 1, NC State 1
The Demon Deacons opened their spring slate with a 1-1 draw against ACC foe NC State. Just two minutes into the contest, Kahla Seymour almost found the goal on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box, but the ball just missed the mark and bounced off the post. From there, it took until the 54th minute for a team to find the back of the net when NC State finally scored on a header off a corner. The Deacs came close to matching the score in the 73rd minute when Monreau DeVos' shot from 30 yards out hit the crossbar. Wake Forest continued to push the attack and evened the score at 1-all in the 82nd minute when Ally Haran netted a header off a free kick from Maddie Huster. Lindsay Preston started in goal for the Deacs and kept the Wolfpack scoreless during the first half while the lone NC State goal came against Nonie Frishette in the second half.
