RALEIGH, N.C. -- One school record was broken and six Demon Deacons placed in the top ten as the Wake Forest men's and women's track programs wrapped up competition at the adidas Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
Charlie Ionata broke the school record and set a personal best in the men's Hammer Throw while Jen Esposito claimed the lone event title for the Demon Deacons. Six Deacs claimed top-10 finishes in their respective events Saturday, adding to the five that were earned in Friday's competition.
Ionata broke the school record in the men's Hammer Throw, a record he already owned, with a throw of 65.99m (216' 6"). The previous school record, set by Ionata last season, was 65.15m (213' 9"). The throw landed Ionata in second place for the event.
Also in the men's Hammer Throw, Kyle Johnson threw a personal-best mark of 61.04m (200' 3"). He replaces a previous best of 59.88m (196' 5") that he set at the ACC Championships last season.
Elijah Shalaway, competing in his first outdoor competition, finished 12th in the men's Javelin with a throw of 56.96m (186' 10") to round out the men's field events.
On the women's field side, Tesia Kempski finished fourth in the Pole Vault after clearing the 3.65m (11' 11.75") bar while Jessica Molina threw 46.75m (153' 4") in the Hammer Throw.
On the track, Jen Esposito claimed the sole event title for the Demon Deacons with a time of 59.62 in the women's 400m Hurdles. Esposito's time was the only mark under one minute in the women's competition. Emma Gallagher finished 20th in the event with a time of 1:03.44.
In the men's 400m Hurdles, Bobby Jacowleff finished 14th with a time of 54.60 while freshman Nicholas Beglane finished his first-ever 400m Hurdles event with a time of 58.35.
Kathryn Lazarchick was just shy of a personal best with her sixth-place, 2:09.76 mark in the 800m Run. Lara-Ann Schwede took 15th in her first 800m event of the season with a time of 2:13.57. On men's side, Andrew Fea took 14th with a time of 1:53.34, just over a second shy of a personal best.
The women's 4x400m Relay team consisting of Maya Hinton, Amy Collins, Sarah Johnson and Esposito finished 12th with a mark of 3:51.75. The squad's time is the fastest time by a Wake Forest women's squad in the outdoor 4x400m relay since a 3:49.09 performance in 2013.
The men's 4x400m Relay team consisting of Jacowleff, Beglane, Kaleb Bryant and Fea wrapped up the 2017 Raleigh Relays with a 10th-place finish and a time of 3:21.25.
