WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest women's soccer volunteer assistant coach Courtney Owen has been promoted to assistant coach, head coach Tony da Luz announced Wednesday.
The move comes after assistant coach Megan Jessee took the head coaching job at the University of Rhode Island.
"I am delighted to announce the promotion of Courtney Owen to an assistant coach position on our staff," said da Luz. "Courtney worked hard this year as our volunteer coach and deserves the opportunity. Having played here at Wake Forest, Courtney brings a unique perspective and experience to the job. She has formed strong relationships with our players and knows what they are going through. Her coaching instincts are sharp and best of all, she is a die-hard Demon Deacon!"
Owen played at Wake Forest from 2010-13 before graduating cum laude with a degree in psychology in 2014. She appeared in 25 total games, including 16 her senior season, and scored her first-career goal in her final home game, a game-winner against Morehead State in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Shortly after graduation, she began working as a coach at Twin City Soccer Academy in Winston-Salem before serving as the assistant coach for the Lake Braddock Secondary School and Braddock Road Youth Club in Virginia from 2015-16.
Owen spent two years working as a human resource and market coordinator for BrigliaHundley P.C. in Virginia before returning as a volunteer assistant for the Demon Deacons prior to the 2016 season.
"I'm very excited to be the new assistant at Wake Forest," said Owen. "I want to thank Tony da Luz and Ron Wellman for giving me this great opportunity. It's a very special thing to be able to return to your alma mater to coach and I am thrilled to be back here at Wake Forest. I had a great experience this past year as a volunteer and I am ready to take on my new role to continue to help this program succeed."
