Kupcho Holds Lead at NCAA Championship

SUGAR GROVE, Ill – Wake Forest sophomore Jennifer Kupcho is the 36-hole leader at the 2017 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. Kupcho shot a 2-under 70 during Sunday's second round at Rich Harvest Farms to move to even par for the tournament, taking a one-shot lead into the final round.
Kupcho had four birdies and an eagle during the second round as her 70 was tied for the low round of the day. She was one of just five golfers in the 132 player field to shoot under par on Sunday.
"Jennifer played solid, smart golf today," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "It was windy and cool, but she handled the conditions well. She had four birdies and an eagle today. Players are going to have bogeys on this course, but Jennifer has the confidence that she can get some birdies out there too. It should be exciting tomorrow."
Kupcho leads August Kim of Purdue by one stroke after 36 holes. Two players are tied for third at 2-over as only six golfers will enter the final round within four strokes of Kupcho.
"Today was really good," said Kupcho. "I was hitting the ball really well. It started getting really windy so it definitely started getting a little tougher the last six holes but I held it together. My coach and my assistant coach supported me when I was making bogeys. The course played way easier today just because there was no rain. It's always going to be windy out here so you kind of come into it just expecting that."
After Saturday's round was cancelled due to weather, the tournament was shortened from 72 to 54 holes. Kupcho will tee off her third and final round at 2:35 p.m. ET on Monday. The Golf Channel will televise the final round with coverage beginning at 3 p.m.
