Kupcho Maintains Lead at NCAA Athens Regional

ATHENS, Ga. – The Wake Forest women's golf team continued play Tuesday at the NCAA Athens Regional with the second round at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Sophomore Jennifer Kupcho maintained her lead at the event, shooting a 2-under 70 during Tuesday's play.
Kupcho is the 36-hole leader at 6-under after shooting her school-record 11th consecutive round under par. She holds a one-shot lead over Lauren Stephenson of Alabama and a three-shot lead over three other players.
"I have been hitting the ball pretty well and making a lot of putts," said Kupcho. "All spring I have been able to consistently shoot under-par and have I've tried to keep that going here."
As a team, the Demon Deacons shot 14-over during the second round and remained in 15th place at 34-over through 36 holes. The top six teams and three highest individuals from teams not advancing will qualify for the NCAA Championships, held later this month in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Sierra Sims shot even par 72 during the second round to remain at 5-over for the tournament. Erica Herr had a second round 77 and Anna Wears shot 83 to round out the Demon Deacon lineup. Antonia Eberhard was not able to play Tuesday's round due to injury.
"The team played better today than yesterday and with only four players they really hung in there well," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "I am proud of how they played their games and didn't feel the pressure. Anna made a big improvement from yesterday, Erica finished strong and birdied the final two holes, Sierra was steady all day and Jennifer was outstanding again today. I felt like it was a good day all around considering the circumstances and hopefully we can improve again tomorrow."
The NCAA Athens Regional concludes Wednesday at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
