WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- With a busy summer of soccer heating up, several former Wake Forest soccer greats are shining in the pros. Here's a look at how the former Demon Deacons are faring in the MLS and other professional leagues this season.
Corben Bone - FC Cincinnati
Bone has started nine games as a midfielder for FC Cincinnati and subbed in for two more this season. He is playing his second season with the team.
Brian Carroll - Philadelphia Union
An MLS veteran, Carroll has started the most games in Union history with 156 and ranks fourth in MLS history with 470 appearances over a storied career. This season, Carroll started one game for Bethlehem Steel FC but has struggled with injuries and has yet to make an appearance with Philadelphia this season.
Carroll was recently featured in a Father's Day article on the Philadelphia Union website.
Sam Cronin - Minnesota United FC
Picked up by Minnesota in the offseason from the Colorado Rapids, Cronin has started nine games for Minnesota in their inaugural season. He has recorded one assist with four shots while anchoring the midfield.
Austin da Luz - North Carolina FC
da Luz has started 10 games for North Carolina FC this season and recorded 11 shots. The veteran midfielder has also started a campaign called Playing for Pride. More information can be found here.
Chris Duvall - Montreal Impact
Duvall was selected by Minnesota as the No. 1 Expansion Draft pick in December but was traded to Montreal. He has played in 13 games and started 12 of them. He has one assist and eight shots this season. Duvall spent the previous three seasons with the New York Red Bulls.
Alec Ferrell - Minnesota United FC
Drafted by Minnesota in December after a stellar season with the Demon Deacons, Ferrell has yet to see any action due to an injury suffered late in the year.
Sam Fink - Oklahoma City Energy FC
Fink joined Oklahoma City after spending two season with Saint Louis FC where he appeared in 53 games and had four goals. Oklahoma City is currently eighth in the USL standings.
Akira Fitzgerald -- Tampa Bay Rowdies
Fitzgerald signed with the Rowdies in March after several seasons with the Carolina RailHawks (now North Carolina FC). Fitzgerald has four starts this season with three clean sheets but left his fourth game with an injury.
Ian Harkes - D.C. United
The MAC Hermann Trophy winner from last season, Harkes has made a terrific transition to the MLS with D.C. United. Harkes has started 12 games and played in 13 while tallying 15 shots in league play. Harkes scored his first professional goal against Christos FC in a U.S. Open Cup match.
Jack Harrison - New York City FC
Harrison is continuing to build off his stellar rookie season for NYCFC. After registering four goals last year, Harrison has six goals and four assists this season and has started 15-of-16 matches. Harrison has fit in well with such stars as David Villa and Andrea Pirlo.
Jacori Hayes - FC Dallas
Hayes was selected by FC Dallas with the 18th overall pick. Hayes logged over 200 minutes in the preseason with FC Dallas and has seen action in one match during the regular season.
Andy Lubahn -- San Francisco Deltas
Lubahn is in his first season with the San Francisco Deltas after spending last season with Louisville City FC. He has made seven appearances with one start for the Deltas this season.
Collin Martin - Minnesota United FC
Martin was traded from D.C. United in January and has played in two games this season with Minnesota. He had spent four seasons with D.C. United before the trade. Martin recently started against Sporting Kansas City on June 14 in the U.S. Open Cup.
Ben Newnam - San Antonio FC
Newnam joined San Antonio FC in the offseason and has made 13 starts. He has anchored the defense with over a total of 1163 minutes played.
Ike Opara - Sporting Kansas City
Opara has made 15 starts this season and has scored one goal. He has also helped produce nine shutouts for Sporting KC. He scored a goal against Minnesota FC on June 14 in a 4-0 win in the U.S. Open Cup.
Sean Okoli - New York City FC
After a standout season with FC Cincinnati in 2016, Okoli rejoined the MLS with NYCFC. He has started two games and played in eight total for NYCFC while registering one goal off nine shots.
Michael Parkhurst - Atlanta United FC
Parkhurst joined Atlanta United FC for its inaugural season after spending the last three years with the Columbus Crew. Leading the Atlanta defense as a center back, Parkhurst has started 15 games this season.
Jalen Robinson - D.C. United
Robinson has started one game this season for D.C. United.
Jared Watts - Colorado Rapids
Watts has already started over 50 games for the Colorado Rapids in the last four seasons. In 2017, Watts has started 10 matches and has tallied one assist which came on Opening Day vs. the New England Revolution.
