About Walt Chyzowych
When Chyzowych stepped in as Wake's men's soccer head coach in 1986 the Deacs had only posted one ACC win through two seasons. Under his leadership, the squad saw rapid improvement and within three seasons took their first ACC title in 1989.
But Chyzowych's influence extended far beyond the Winston-Salem city limits. Before landing at Wake Forest he served as the United States Soccer Federation's (USSF) Director of Coaching. In addition to leading U.S. National teams, Chyzowych designed and conducted licensed courses across the country to train aspiring coaches.
Chyzowych is known as "a pioneer for American collegiate coaches" for his role founding, organizing and promoting the nation's first soccer education program.
Chyzowych passed away on Sept. 2, 1994, just one day before the start of the '94 season.
