The Matchup
No. 4-ranked Wake Forest is set to take on Pittsburgh as part of Homecoming on Saturday at 7:30 on ACC Network Extra, and the Deacs will also honor the 2007 National Championship team.
That 2007 team finished with a 22-2-2 overall record and won the national title over Ohio State, 2-1. The Deacs outscored opponents 67-14 that season.
Fans who bring their ticket from the 3 p.m. football game will receive free admission into the soccer game.
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons earned their first shutout of the season over App State with a 3-0 victory.
Ema Twumasi scored his second and third goals of the season for his second-career multi-goal game. Bruno Lapa also scored his first goal of the season.
The Deacs held the Mountaineers without a shot. The last time Wake Forest did that was in 2005.
Wake Forest Storylines
The Demon Deacons have one of the most prolific offenses in the nation to date this season. Wake Forest leads the country in goals (20), assists (26) and points (66).
Last year, it took the Deacs 15 games to reach 20 goals, compared to just six this season.
Three Demon Deacons have already totaled at least 10 points after only four did so all last year: Jon Bakero (14 pts - 4g, 6a), Luis Argudo (11 pts - 5g, 1a), and Brandon Servania (10 pts - 2g, 6a). Each of them ranks in the top 25 nationally in points - Bakero is third, Argudo 13th and Servania 22nd.
A senior in 2017, Argudo has discovered a new scoring touch in his final season, scoring five goals in the last five games. He entered the season with two total goals in his first three years - one as a freshman with Elon and one at Wake Forest last year.
Opponent And Series History
Wake Forest leads the all-time series against Pittsburgh by a 2-0 margin. The Deacs claimed a 4-0 win in 2015 and a 2-0 win in 2013, with both meetings taking place in Pennsylvania.
This will mark the first time Jay Vidovich has coached against the Demon Deacons after spending 21 years as the head coach in Winston-Salem. He was a five-time ACC Coach of the Year and totaled more than 270 wins at the helm.
The Panthers hold a 2-3-0 overall record and are 0-1-0 in the ACC after falling to North Carolina. In goal, Mikal Outcait has played every minute and has a 0.80 goals-against average and .800 save percentage.
On Deck
Wake Forest closes out its three-game homestand on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against High Point.
