WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Ema Twumasi notched an 89th-minute dagger to lead No. 2 Wake Forest past South Carolina, 2-1, in a come-from-behind victory at Spry Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Demon Deacons (9-1-0) trailed the Gamecocks (4-4-1) by a goal with less than 30 minutes remaining, before a foul in the box led to Jon Bakero's sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to tie the score at 1-1.

At the 88:25 mark, Twumasi snuck a shot from the left side inside the far post off a Bakero assist to put the Deacs ahead for the first time all game. The assist was Bakero's Division I-best 10th of the year, giving him the 12th double-digit season assist total in program history.

Wake Forest had a 22-1 advantage in shots, but the one attempt by South Carolina found the back of the net in the 15th minute. Justin Sukow's through ball split a pair of defenders and found Petter Soelberg, who beat Andreu Cases Mundet through the five-hole to put the Gamecocks in front and snap the Deacs' shutout streak at 463:20.

The Deacs put 10 shots on target, eight of them saved by South Carolina keeper William Pyle. For the Deacs, Twumasi took season-highs of six shots and four shots on goal in just 48 minutes of action. Bakero and Brandon Servania took four shots apiece.

Wake Forest takes on a second-straight opponent from the Palmetto State on Friday, welcoming Clemson to Winston-Salem for a 6 p.m. kickoff on ESPNU.
