
Wake Forest Falls at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team fell, 79-67, to Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.
After scoring the game's first seven points, Wake Forest (10-10, 2-5 ACC) allowed Georgia Tech (13-7, 2-5 ACC) to go on a 29-2 run overlapping the first and second quarters. Although the Demon Deacons cut their deficit to six points at the end of the third quarter, they were unable to complete the comeback.
Elisa Penna led the Deacs with 22 points including three three-pointers. Freshman Ivana Raca added 12 points off the bench, her second-straight game scoring in double figures. Raegyn Branch tallied 10 points in 17 minutes.
After the Demon Deacons jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets used a 21-2 run over the final six and a half minutes of the period to take a 21-9 lead heading into the second quarter.
Georgia Tech continued its hot three-point shooting in the second quarter, scoring the first eight points of the quarter and eventually building a 20-point lead before the Deacs used an 8-2 run to close out the half and enter the break trailing by 12.
Wake Forest cut its deficit to single digits after a solid third quarter. The Demon Deacons held Georgia Tech to just nine points in the period and entered the fourth quarter trailing by only six.
The Yellow Jackets opened the fourth quarter by hitting a three-pointer to increase their lead to nine. The Demon Deacons were unable to close the gap to under eight points the rest of the way as Georgia Tech put the game away at the free throw line.
Up next, Wake Forest returns home to host NC State this Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
