WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Eight Wake Forest athletic programs recorded a perfect 100 percent graduation success rate, while the Demon Deacons combined for a GSR of 94 for the second consecutive year, according to the latest data released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
The graduation success rate is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree within a six-year period. The latest data shows GSR for students from 2008-11. This year's average of 94 stands six points above the national average of 88 percent, which is one point higher than last year's average.
Men's soccer, men's tennis, women's basketball, field hockey, women's golf, women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball led the Deacons with a 100 percent GSR, while both men's and women's track and cross country teams registered a 95.
The Deacons' 94 percent is fourth in the ACC behind Notre Dame (98), Duke (98) and Boston College (95). 12 of Wake Forest's 14 programs checked in above the national average of 88.
Men's and women's tennis, women's golf, women's basketball, and volleyball have all posted a perfect rate for all 14 years the data has been collected. Women's soccer recorded a perfect rating after recording a GSR of 95 for the past three years.
The NCAA introduced the GSR in 2005 to accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere.
