Ona Udoh and Ivana Raca each recorded double-doubles against the Musketeers
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Despite double-doubles from Ivana Raca and Ona Udoh, the Wake Forest women's basketball team suffered a 62-50 defeat to Xavier Wednesday (Nov. 21) evening inside the LJVM Coliseum.
Udoh scored a team-high 17 points, two shy of matching a career high, and added 10 rebound while Ivana Raca also brought in 10 rebounds and contributed 12 points. Raca has now scored in double figures in all five games to start the 2018-19 season after scoring 10+ points four times during her freshman season.
Xavier (4-1) used the long ball to pull away from Wake Forest (3-2), connecting on 12-of-34 attempts from distance. The Demon Deacons, conversely, struggled from beyond the arc, going 1-of-13 from deep.
Neither side was able to create any separation over the course of the first 20 minutes, as the two sides were tied at 26 all headed to the halftime break. The Deacs overcame an early 6-2 deficit to take a 14-9 lead into the second quarter. Kaylen Dickson connected from long range before Christina Morra converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give Wake Forest a 6-0 to end the quarter, the team's longest run of the game.
Xavier's A'riana Gray single-handedly pushed the Musketeers in front in the early portions of the third period, scoring 10 points over a 14-4 Xavier run to give the visitors a 40-30 advantage.
Wake Forest would trim the deficit to four points late in the third but were unable to close the gap any further.
The Demon Deacons return to action on Saturday, November 24, on the road at in-state foe ECU. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
