Justin Strnad and Cameron Glenn each had double-digit tackles and Essang Bassey broke up a career-high five passes.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 19 Syracuse defeated Wake Forest 41-24 on Saturday afternoon at BB&T Field in front of 26,136 fans on Homecoming Weekend.

Wake Forest (4-5, 1-4 ACC) started the game on a 10-0 run but Syracuse (7-2, 4-2 ACC) scored four-straight touchdowns while closing out any potential Demon Deacon rally thanks to winning the turnover battle, 3-0.

How It Happened:
Cade Carney scored a 2-yard touchdown on the second possession of the day for Wake Forest. With the drive starting on the Syracuse 47-yard line, quarterback Sam Hartman led the Deacons on the drive which featured a nifty 24-yard pass to Greg Dortch.

Later in the first half, Dortch took a punt return 29 yards deep into Syracuse territory. Following a stop on third down, Nick Sciba booted a 22-yard field goal as the Deacons extended their lead to 10-0.

Syracuse scored on its next possession off an 8-yard rushing touchdown from Moe Neal. Jarveon Howard added a 1-yard touchdown for the Orange in the last minute of the first quarter as Syracuse led 14-10. Howard tacked on another 1-yard touchdown right before halftime as the Orange held a 21-10 advantage at the break.

The Orange scored early in the third quarter which pushed the lead to 28-10. The Deacons responded with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Scotty Washington. On the drive, Washington also had a key 27-yard catch on third down.

Leading 28-17, Syracuse scored on a quarterback scramble but Wake Forest again answered. Dortch caught three passes on the drive including an 8-yard touchdown catch narrowing the Orange lead to 35-24. A pair of field goals from Syracuse closed the game out with a 41-24 final.

Stat Leaders:
Greg Dortch led Wake Forest with 95 receiving yards, 146 all-purpose yards and one touchdown. Matt Colburn had a team-high 67 rushing yards.

Essang Bassey had five pass breakups, just one short of the school record. Justin Strnad had 14 total tackles with 10 solo stops while Cameron Glenn had 11 total tackles - 10 solo. Tyler Williams, Manny Walker and Rondell Bothroyd each recorded a sack.

Key Play:
After stopping Syracuse on a key third down in the third quarter, Wake Forest had a promising drive fall short on a fumble which was recovered by the Orange. Syracuse tacked on a field goal on the next possession.

Carney at the Goal Line:
Cade Carney has proven his worth in goal line situations for the Deacons. Carney scored a two-yard touchdown in the first quarter which was his longest touchdown run of the year. His previous six touchdowns dating back to last year were all one-yard scores.

Hartman Notes:
Quarterback Sam Hartman has 1,984 passing yards this season, just 53 yards short of the true freshman record of 2,037 yards set by John Wolford in 2014.

With two passing touchdowns, Hartman continues to extend his school record of touchdowns by a true freshman with his season total at 16. It was Hartman's seventh game this season with multiple touchdown passes. He has thrown for more than 200 yards in 7-of-9 games this season.

Next Up:
Wake Forest travels to NC State for a Thursday night match up. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN and the Wake Forest Sports Network.
