Sharp and Udoh Earn Double Doubles for the Deacs
Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team took care of business in Myrtle Beach, defeating South Carolina State (6-5), 58-44, on Wednesday night. Alex Sharp (15 pts, 11 reb) and Ona Udoh (13 pts, 13 reb) notched double-doubles for the second straight game, leading the Deacs (8-4) to their fifth-straight victory.
Elisa Penna provided an offensive spark late, adding 16 points with a pair of threes. With nine points down the stretch in the fourth, she helped the Deacs secure the double-digit win.
Wake Forest got out to a fast start, igniting for a 9-0 run in the first three minutes of play. Sharp made her presence known, crashing the paint and attacking the rim with high-percentage attempts.
Udoh's five boards on the offensive end gave the Demon Deacons ample opportunities at the rim. Her three blocks on the night displayed the versatility she brings every night for the Deacs, regardless of opponent.
Wake Forest took advantage of their size, edging the Bulldogs in the paint, 32-18. However, S.C. State was able to hang around and managed to tie the game on two occasions, thanks to their active defense and their ability to interfere the passing lanes.
Up next, the Deacs will be back home to host Norfolk State on Sunday, December 30th. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
