WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team ended the regular season Sunday (Feb. 25) afternoon, falling to Virginia, 48-41, on Senior Day.

Prior to Sunday's contest, Amber Campbell, the team's lone senior, was honored as part of Senior Day. The native of Charleston, South Carolina scored a team-high 13 points and added a game-high three steals in her final regular season home game.

Prior to the game, reigning ACC Player of the Week Elisa Penna was honored for reaching the 1,000-point mark in the team's previous game at Clemson on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Campbell enters the ACC Tournament eighth in program history in career points (1,475), seventh in career field goals (547), fifth in career steals (225), first in career starts (126), seventh in career games played (127) and first in career minutes (4,064).

A defensive battle in the opening quarter saw the Deacs (13-16, 5-11 ACC) take a 9-5 lead into the second frame where they began to put the pressure on the visiting Cavaliers (17-12, 10-6 ACC). Wake Forest used an 8-0 run over 2:33 to build a 10-point advantage at 19-9, forcing a Virginia timeout.

Wake Forest held the advantage through the end of the first half and took a 22-15 lead into the break. Ivana Raca led all scorers at halftime with eight points, including a pair from beyond the arc.

The Demon Deacons maintained their lead through most of the third quarter until Virginia took the lead with three seconds left in the period, the Cavs' first lead since 1:18 remaining in the first quarter.

Down the stretch Wake Forest and Virginia traded baskets, but the Cavaliers closed out the game from the free throw line, finishing with a seven-point victory.

Wake Forest earned the No. 11 seed in next week's ACC Tournament, which returns to Greensboro following a one-year hiatus. The Deacs will face No. 14 seed Pittsburgh in the opening round on Wednesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. The Deacs defeated the Panthers, 58-49, in Pittsburgh on Jan. 4.
