WINTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team will play six games this spring, beginning with an ACC matchup with Duke on March 28.
March 28: Wake Forest 3, Duke 2
Tied 2-all, Estelle Laurier netted the game-winning goal with under three minutes to play to give the Deacs a 3-2 victory over Duke. The Blue Devils got on the board first with a goal from Kayla McCoy in the third minute. Duke's defense held the Deacons without a shot and maintained its 1-0 lead until Bayley Feist was fouled in the box. Laurier converted the penalty kick to knot the game at 1-1 going into halftime. In the second half, the Deacs took the lead when Ryanne Brown netted a header with an assist from Haley Jordahl in the 82nd minute. Duke's Kayla McCoy quickly responded with her second goal of the night on a one-on-one battle with Nonie Frishette to tie the game 2-all in the 84th minute. However, Laurier netted the game-winner with an assist from Feist to give the Deacs their first win of the spring. Frishette spent all 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves.
April 8: Wake Forest 2 - Campbell 0
In the first game of a doubleheader at the 2018 Mercedes Benz Southern Soccer Showcase, the Deacs defeated Campbell, 2-0. Campbell's goalie managed to keep the Deacs scoreless in the first half thanks to two big saves. However, in the 61st minute, Estelle Laurier split two Campbell defenders and found Ryanne Brown on the edge of the 18-yard box. Brown then crossed the ball to Bri Carney, who finished on the half-volley to put the Deacs on the board. Then in the 65th minute, Brown and Laurier connected again off a ball from Bayley Feist. Brown's pass split four Campbell defenders to find Laurier. Her one-touch finish from six yards out beat the Camel's keeper to make it 2-0. Both Nonie Frishette and Emily Hull saw time in goal. Frishette played the opening half, consisting of 35 minutes, while Hull played the second, making one save to preserve the shutout.
April 8: Wake Forest 2 - Virginia Tech 2
In the second game of the day, Nonie Frishette played both 35-minute halves in goal. The Deacs started fast with a goal in the third minute. After the Hokies' keeper saved a shot from Bri Carney, Ryanne Brown picked up the rebound and beat the keeper along the end line. Brown then pulled the ball back to Estelle Laurier, who found the back of the net from 12-yards out. However, Virginia Tech evened the score in the 15th minute after a sloppy clearance by the Deacs landed at the top of the 18-yard box, allowing a Virginia Tech attacker to fire the ball past Frishette. Tied at half, the Hokies went up 2-1 in the 44th minute off another failed clearance from the Deacs. Abby McNamara scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute. Carney passed the ball to Peyton Perea, who split two Virginia Tech defenders to find McNamara.
