AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Wake Forest men's golf team opened play at the 3M Augusta Invitational with Saturday's first and second rounds at Forest Hills Golf Club. The Demon Deacons are in third place after 36 holes at 4-under par.

"It was a solid opening day, playing 36 holes," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We left a few shots on the course, but we are in contention and if we can clean up those mistakes tomorrow, we should be able to shoot a low number."

Illinois leads the tournament at 12-under, followed by Tennessee at 6-under and Wake Forest at 4-under. Houston (2-under) was the only other team to finish Saturday under par.

Cameron Young, playing his first event of the spring after missing the last three tournaments due to injury, leads Wake Forest at 2-under through 36 holes. Young shot rounds of 70 and 72 to finish the day T-10th on the individual leaderboard.

Paul McBride is at 1-under through two rounds after posting a 71 and 72. Parker Gillam had the low round of the afternoon for the Deacs with a second-round 69 to finish the day at even par. Eric Bae shot 71-75 to finish the day at 2-over and Lee Detmer went 72-75 to finish at 3-over.

The 3M Augusta Invitational concludes Sunday at Forest Hills Golf Club.
