WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the Virginia Challenge April 20-21 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Events at Lannigan Field begin Friday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Thirty-One Demon Deacons are slated to compete in the two-day competition, 14 on the men's side and 17 on the women's. The Deacs will compete alongside over 30 schools, including ACC schools Boston College, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pitt, Syracuse and host Virginia. The women will also face tough competition from No. 15 Tennessee while the men will see action against No. 20 Penn State.
In the Deacons' last appearance at the Virginia Challenge in 2017, three school records fell on the opening day of competition. Ellie Abrahamson set the 3000m steeplechase record, Charlie Ionata broke his own hammer throw mark and Casidy Howard broke her own discus record.
Last week, the Deacs captured five event titles at the Charlotte Invitational. Robert Heppenstall won the 1500m, Rachel Kern earned the javelin title, Jordan Banks finished first in the heptathlon, Alexandria Florent dominated the high jump event and Tesia Kempski took the pole vault. Heppenstall, Kern, Florent and Kempski will look to title again in their respective events this weekend while Banks will compete in the 100m hurdles and the long jump.
Next week, the Deacons will tune up at the Virginia Grand Prix on April 28 before heading to Miami, Florida for the ACC Championships May 10-12.
