COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Wake Forest men's golf team concluded the 2017-18 season Wednesday with the final round of play at the NCAA Columbus Regional. The Demon Deacons shot 8-over on Wednesday to finish the tournament in eighth place at 35-over.
The top five teams at the regional advanced to the NCAA Championships. Oklahoma State won the regional title at 8-under and are joined by Illinois (even), UNLV (15-over), Northwestern (16-over) and Texas Tech (18-over) as the teams advancing to the NCAA Championships.
"We had the second-most birdies in the field for the week, but we need to learn to value a par and bogey," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We basically only had one or two guys play well each day when it takes a total team effort to get it done."
Cameron Young led Wake Forest during the final round with a 2-under round of 69. He finished the tournament T-20th at 6-over. Two other Demon Deacons also tied for 20th place at 6-over. Paul McBride, playing in his final collegiate tournament, posted a final round 73 to finish at 6-over, while Parker Gillam shot 72 on Wednesday to finish at that mark.
The Demon Deacon lineup was rounded out by Eric Bae and Lee Detmer, who each shot a final round 78.
