WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest center Ryan Anderson has been named to the Rimington Award's Spring Watch List as one of the top centers in college football.
A total of 57 centers from across the country have been nominated for the award which goes to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I football.
Anderson, a 6-6, 305-pound redshirt senior from Raleigh, N.C. (The Hun School/N.J.) is going into his fourth season as a starter. A team captain this fall, he has started 29 consecutive games on the offensive line including all 13 contests in 2017 at center. Anderson was a second team All-ACC selection last year and was named to ESPN's All-ACC Bowl team after helping the Demon Deacon offense run up 646 yards of total offense in the 55-52 win over Texas A&M in the Belk Bowl.
Anderson keyed a Wake Forest offensive line that helped the Deacon offense set school records for points and total offense yards in a season while reducing sacks allowed by 95 percent over 2016. Behind Anderson's leadership, the Deacon rushing attack averaged a school record 4.57 yards per carry in 2017 and a 50 percent increase in total offense yards over the previous season.
Anderson is one of five returning starters on the Wake Forest offensive line in 2018. The Deacons open the season at Tulane on August 30 and play their first home game against Towson at BB&T Field on September 8.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982 during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
