Wake Forest Falls to William & Mary in Exhibition

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest women's soccer fell to William & Mary, 3-2, in the first exhibition contest of the season on Monday at Spry Stadium.
Freshmen Ashley Frank and Giovanna DeMarco scored the two goals for the Demon Deacons.
Frank put the Deacons on the board first in the 42nd minute with an assist from Bayley Feist. Feist had taken a shot that was blocked by a William & Mary defender before Frank snuck the ball past the keeper on the rebound, giving the Deacons a 1-0 lead at the half.
DeMarco struck fast in the second frame, finding the back of the net in the 47th minute on a one-timer from Estelle Laurier to give the Deacs a 2-0 advantage.
However, the Tribe cut their deficit in half in the 69th minute when Colleen Norton shot from 20-yards out to get past Wake Forest keeper Mia Raben. William & Mary then tied the score at 2-all in the 73rd minute after Norton stole the ball and passed it to Sarah Segan, who netted the goal.
Amanda Wigboldy scored the game-winner for the Tribe in the 86th minute. Wigboldy shot from 15-yards out off an attempted clearance to seal the game 3-2 in the Tribe's favor.
The Demon Deacons led the Tribe in shots by an 18-11 margin, including 12-2 in the first half. Feist led the Deacs with six shots followed by Peyton Perea with three and DeMarco and Shayla Smart with two.
Freshmen DeMarco, Raben and Oliwia Wos earned the start for the Demon Deacons on Monday while Frank, Smart and Lauren Tangney all came in off the bench for the Deacs. Raben played all 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves.
