Demon Deacons Add Two for 2019

Siddhant Banthia and Matej Cintl will join the Demon Deacons for the upcoming spring season
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men's tennis coach Tony Bresky announced Thursday (Jan. 3) the addition of two student-athletes to the program for the upcoming spring season in Siddhant Banthia and Matej Cintl.
A native of Pune, India, Banthia joins the Deacs as the No. 1 ranked player in India. The incoming freshman has a UTR of 13.55 and has been ranked as high as 41 in the ITF junior rankings. Additionally, Banthia has competed at the ATP level, earning a career-high doubles ranking of 1210. Over the last three years, Banthia has won six junior singles titles and eight doubles titles while finishing runner-up an additional five times in singles and doubles tournaments combined.
"We are very excited to welcome Siddhant to our program and look for him to make an immediate impact this season," said Bresky. "Siddhant had a tough start to the year battling some injuries but had an incredible finish, winning the U18 India National Championships and the Grade A Asian Junior Championships. Siddhant is an excellent competitor in addition to being a very strong student. He will be an excellent fit for our program and we are looking forward to working with him."
Cintl, a native of Cheb, Czech Republic, is already familiar with Winston-Salem, having competed in both of the ITF Futures events held this summer at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. In the second Futures event held at Wake Forest, Cintl drew current Deac Morgan Dill. In addition to the two Winston-Salem Futures events, Cintl has competed in an additional six Futures events since the start of May.
"Matej is a late bloomer and has a great amount passion to improve. He has an aggressive play style and has excellent doubles skills. Additionally, he's very strong in the classroom. We are looking for Matej to be a strong addition to our program for years to come and are very excited to get on court with him," added Bresky.
The Deacs begin their NCAA title defense on Saturday, January 19, playing host to Arizona State at 6 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
