WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's soccer Associate Head Coach Jason Lowe has accepted the head coaching position at Boston College.
Lowe spent five seasons as an assistant with the Demon Deacons, including the last two years as Associate Head Coach.
"I owe Wake Forest my gratitude for preparing me for every phase of my adult life," Lowe said. "I've had amazing undergraduate, MBA school, and coaching experiences here and that's all because of the amazing people. [Head coach] Tony da Luz doesn't get enough credit for the talent he consistently develops, both with his players and with his coaching staffs. I'm going to miss our team, but I am excited for this new challenge at Boston College."
Lowe is a 1998 alumnus of Wake Forest and also served as a goalkeeper in the old gold and black for the men's soccer squad from 1994-97. He helped lead the Deacs to back-to-back NCAA Tournament runs, reaching the round of 32 in 2017, followed by a round of 16 run in 2018.
"I am proud of Jason, he has worked tirelessly to improve our program, he has always been a professional and bleeds Wake Forest through and through," da Luz said. "After paying his dues over many years, he deserves the opportunity to run his own ACC program. I will miss him and our program will miss him but at the same time I am proud of his achievement because it is a reflection of our program's success and shows respect for our program's culture. I know Jason will be a fantastic leader and mentor to the Boston College student-athletes, they are lucky to have him. Thank you Jason for all you have done to support our players and our program."
At Boston College, Lowe replaces Alison Foley who resigned after 22 years as head coach. She finished her BC career with an overall record of 280-145-39, reaching 15 NCAA Tournaments, as well as the 2010 College Cup. The Eagles finished 2018 with a 14-5-1 overall record, including 6-3-1 in ACC play.
Lowe becomes the fourth assistant under da Luz to earn a head coaching position. Tim Santoro took over at NC State in 2012, and Megan Jessee accepted the head role at Rhode Island in 2017. Previously, Kelly Cagle went on to be the head coach at Virginia Tech from 2003-10.
