
Deacons Finish Second at Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – The Wake Forest men's golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. The Demon Deacons shot the low round of the day, 8-under, to finish in second place at 24-under.
The tournament featured an elite field that included six of the eight NCAA match play quarterfinalists from last season. Oklahoma won the event at 29-under, as the Deacs closed a 15-shot deficit at the start of the day to get within five shots at 24-under. Clemson was third at 17-under, while Oklahoma State was fourth at 12-under.
With the result, the Demon Deacons have finished in the top two in each of their first three events of the season, with one victory and two runner-up finishes.
"We have an excellent team and it is always a different guy who steps up," said head coach Jerry Haas. "Alex had a great round today and Eugenio had a great finish. We have shot 22-under, 21-under and 24-under in the first three tournaments, that's a solid start to the season."
Eugenio Chacarra was the low Deac for the tournament, finishing T-4th at 8-under par. He shot a 3-under 68 on Tuesday, highlighted by five consecutive birdies to conclude his round.
Alex Fitzpatrick shot the lowest round on the course of the day, posting a 6-under 65, highlighted by a 5-under 30 on the front nine. He finished the tournament T-10th at 5-under. He finished tied with Parker Gillam who shot a final round 72 to record his second top 10 of the season.
Marco Steyn shot even par 71 to finish the event at even par while Eric Bae had a final round 75 to finish at 1-over for the tournament.
The Demon Deacons return to action Oct. 18-20 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
