The Wake Forest football team returned to the Top 25 on Sunday, October 20, following the Demon Deacons' 22-20 win over Florida State at BB&T Field.
The Deacons are ranked No. 23 in the Amway Coaches Poll and No. 25 in the Associated Press poll.
Wake Forest improved to 6-1 with Saturday's win over Florida State. Sophomore placekicker Nick Sciba tied the school record with five field goals including the go-ahead 25-yarder with 4:18 to play in the game. Quarterback Sam Hartman, making his first start of the season, completed 21 of 38 passes for 308 yards. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Sage Surratt recorded his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season with seven receptions for 170 yards.
"Once again, this week we found a way to win and I'm proud of our guys," said head coach Dave Clawson following the game. "I'm proud of the defense, they bounced back from last week. I'm proud of our offense and Sam Hartman. This was a gritty win, our team didn't give up and we found a way to win."
The win was Wake Forest's first over the Seminoles since 2011 and moved the Deacons to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the ACC. Wake Forest is 6-1 for just the fourth time in school history and the first time since 2006.
The win clinched bowl eligibility for the Deacons for a school record fourth consecutive year. Saturday's win marks the second-earliest date that a Wake Forest football team had become bowl eligible.
The Deacons will enjoy an open date on Oct. 26 and will return to action at BB&T Field on Nov. 2 against NC State. Tickets for the game remain available by clicking HERE.
