ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Wake Forest men's golf team concluded play Sunday at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The Demon Deacons shot 5-under during the final round, the second-lowest round of the day and moved up to a fourth place finish among an elite field that included 10 of the top 30 teams in the nation.
Duke won the tournament at 2-under par, followed by Pepperdine at even. Texas A&M was third at 1-over, with the Demon Deacons finishing fourth at 4-over.
"These guys play so hard every round," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We were in position to shoot 10 or 15-under today but just didn't get the breaks, but we hit very few poor shots. I'm very proud of this group because it was a tough week. We overcame some tough conditions earlier in the tournament and every day moved up the leaderboard. That is a great sign for this team."
Two Demon Deacons concluded top-10 individual finishes on Sunday. Mark Power had his bext career finish, shooting a final round 68 to finish T-3rd at 5-under. Alex Fitzpatrick finished T-9th at 1-under after shooting a final round 69.
Eugenio Chacarra and Marco Steyn each shot 73 in the final round and Parker Gillam had a final round 75 to round out the lineup.
The Deacons return to action Oct. 28-30 with the East Lake Cup in Atlanta. The prestigious four-team event features a match play championship and airs on Golf Channel.
