WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A pair of Wake Forest sophomores have earned ACC Player of the Week awards following the Demon Deacons' 22-20 win over Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 19. Sage Surratt earned his fourth ACC Receiver of the Week award this season while sophomore placekicker Nick Sciba was named as the ACC's Co-Specialist of the Week.
Surratt, a 6-3, 215-pound redshirt sophomore from Lincolnton, N.C., caught seven passes for 170 yards in Wake Forest's 22-20 win over Florida State. For Surratt, it marked his fourth game of the year with over 150 receiving yards, the most in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Surratt had five receptions for first downs and four of his catches were for 27 or more yards including receptions of 27, 31, 36 and 51 yards. He had five catches for 150 yards in the first half alone.
Surratt this week leads the ACC and ranks second in the nation in receiving yards with 881 and in receiving yards per game at 125.9.
"Sage had his best week of practice last week," said associate head coach and wide receivers coach Kevin Higgins. "He went full speed in all our team periods and continues to work hard on his fundamentals."
Sciba, a 5-9, 190-pound sophomore from Clover, S.C., tied the school record with five field goals in the win over the Seminoles. Sciba hit first quarter field goals from 21 and 25 yards and added second quarter field goals from 25 and 27 yards. In the fourth quarter, in a rainstorm delivering just under a quarter inch of rain per hour, he hit a 25-yard field goal with 4:18 remaining to push the Deacons ahead 22-20.
Sciba is a perfect 12 of 12 on field goals this season and has the nation's longest streak of consecutive field goals made at 23. In addition, Sciba leads the ACC in scoring with 9.6 points per game and is tied for the national lead in field goal accuracy at 100 percent.
Wake Forest is idle this week and will return to action when it hosts NC State at noon at BB&T Field on Nov. 2. The game will be televised on ESPN.
