The Demon Deacons tied the game with nine seconds to play, but the Irish scored in the last minute of the second overtime.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Wake Forest closed out its season with a 3-2 loss to Notre Dame in double overtime at Alumni Stadium on Thursday night.
The Demon Deacons (6-8-4, 1-6-3 ACC) battled from a 2-1 deficit to tie the game with nine seconds left and send it to overtime.
But the Fighting Irish (10-6-2, 4-4-2 ACC) scored with less than a minute remaining in the second overtime period to win.
With a record below .500, the Deacs are not eligible for the NCAA playoffs despite having a top-50 RPI.
Hulda Arnarsdottir gave Wake Forest a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute with a top-shelf finish after Madison Hammond found her open near the edge of the box.
Notre Dame's Sammi Fisher tied it right back up at 1-1 in the 43rd minute with a long distance strike of her own.
Bea Franklin fired a left-footed shot under the crossbar to put the Irish ahead 2-1 in the 77th minute.
At the 89:51 mark, Ryanne Brown headed in a corner kick from Mia Albery which sent the game to overtime.
A shot by Brooke VanDyck was saved by keeper Mia Raben, but the rebound bounced off a Deacon defender and into the net.
Shots were even at 14-14, while Notre Dame had a 9-4 lead in corners.
Thursday marked the final game for six graduating seniors: Madison Hammond, Haley Jordahl, Lily Schneider, Brooke Smith and graduate transfers Meghan Kennedy and Haley Younginer.
