No. 7 Wake Forest Drops ACC Semifinal to No. 2 Virginia, 1-0

The Deacs will now await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- No. 7 Wake Forest bowed out of the ACC Championship in the semifinals with a 1-0 loss to No. 2 Virginia at Klockner Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Cavaliers (16-1-1) received a 25th minute goal from Nathaniel Crofts, and the Demon Deacons (13-4-2) were unable to find the equalizer.
"I'm just disappointed that we wasted a half," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "It was evident today that Virginia wanted the game more than us. Virginia is a very, very good team and the best defensive team in the country. We needed to move the ball quicker, we needed to turn them, we needed to try to get in behind them. We did that a little bit more in the second half...but just disappointed that we wasted a half of football here today."
Wake Forest's best opportunity came in the 41st minute. Justin McMaster got a shot off from 25 yards out, but his top-shelf effort clanked off the crossbar.
Calvin Harris had an open look from 15 yards out in the 56th minute, but he didn't hit it cleanly and missed high. He later had a shot saved in the 81st minute.
Andrew Pannenberg made three saves to keep the Deacs in the game.
Wake Forest will now await its NCAA Tournament placement. The NCAA Selection Show is set for Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.
