Borna Gojo to Compete at Davis Cup Finals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's tennis standout Borna Gojo will compete for his home country of Croatia at the 2019 Davis Cup Finals, Nov. 18-24 in Madrid.
Gojo, ranked No. 280 in the world, was selected to replace Marin Cilic after Cilic had to withdraw from the event due to an injury. Gojo will face Russia's 23rd-ranked Andrey Rublev in the opening match.
During his time at Wake Forest, Gojo has been a three-time NCAA All-American. He was named First Team All-ACC three consecutive seasons. Gojo was runner-up in the 2018 NCAA singles championship, falling to teammate Petros Chrysochos and was named 2018 NCAA Championships Most Outstanding Player. He compiled a singles record of 33-7 and finished last season ranked 11th in the ITA rankings.
The finals will be a round-robin format going into a knockout phase, with ties consisting of two singles and one doubles rubber. The 18 nations participating are split into six groups of three, with the group winners and two best-placed runners-up progressing to the quarter-finals. Croatia is in Group B alongside Spain and Russia.
