WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  – Wake Forest placekicker Nick Sciba has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2019 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl.  The Palm Beach County Sports Commission made the announcement on Thursday.

Sciba, a 5-9, 190-pound sophomore from Clover, S.C., has converted all 15 field goal attempts this season and is perfect on 36 PAT attempts.  Sciba is tied for the national field goal accuracy lead and is fifth nationally in field goals per game at 1.88.  He leads the ACC in kick scoring with 81 points and is second in the conference among all scorers.

A two-year starter, Sciba is currently riding a streak of 26 successful field goal attempts.  He made his final 11 attempts of the 2018 season and all 15 tries this season.  That is the nation's longest active streak.

Sciba has 188 career points and already ranks ninth in school history in scoring in just 21 career games.

He has kicked multiple field goals in four games this season including tying the school record with five in a 22-20 win over Florida State on Oct. 19.  He has multiple field goals in 10 of 21 career games.

Wake Forest will visit Virginia Tech on Saturday with a 3:30 kickoff at Lane Stadium.  The game will be carried by ACC Network.

Semifinalists will be voted on by a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on November 25th and honored at the 28th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on December 9th in Palm Beach County. The same panel then selects the winner, who will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, December 12th.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
