Carlos "Boogie" Basham and Sage Surratt were two of three Demon Deacon players to earn first team All-ACC honors
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest defensive lineman Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr. and wide receiver Sage Surratt announced Saturday they will be returning for the 2020 season with the Demon Deacons.
Surratt and Basham were two of three Deacs to earn First Team All-ACC honors this season, helping Wake Forest to its first eight-win regular season since 2007 and a berth in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl
Basham had a career year off the edge totaling 10.0 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles. He recorded a tackle for loss in all 12 games and at least one sack in seven games this season. Basham enters bowl game ranked third in the ACC in sacks.
His 10 sacks this season are tied for third in program history while his 17 tackles for loss rank 10th.
Basham helped the Demon Deacons clinch the Big 4 Championship with a season-high 2.5 sacks each in wins over North Carolina and Duke. His performance against the Blue Devils earned him ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week on Sept. 16.
The Roanoke, Va., native is a part of a senior class that has won 30 games during its career and has become the first class in school history to win seven or more games in each of its four seasons.
Despite missing the final three games of the regular season due to injury, Surratt led the conference with 111.2 yards per game, which ranks fifth nationally. His 7.3 receptions per game rank second in the ACC and seventh in the country.
Surratt's 11 touchdown receptions this season is tied for second in program history and he is one of just three Demon Deacon players to have double-digit touchdowns in a single season.
He had seven or more catches in six games in 2019 and had a touchdown reception in seven games.
The Lincolnton, N.C., native had a career performance against Louisville when he hauled in 12 receptions for 196 yards and three touchdowns, setting career bests in all three categories.
