Wake Forest senior captain Bruno Lapa leads the Deacs with 21 points on nine goals and three assists.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Wake Forest senior captain Bruno Lapa has been selected as one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, given to the top player in college soccer.

Lapa earns the honor for the second-straight year after totaling 10 goals and nine assists a season ago. This year, he leads the Demon Deacons with 21 points on nine goals and three assists.

Three Deacs have won the award: Jon Bakero (2017), Ian Harkes (2016) and Marcus Tracy (2008). Lapa is the seventh semifinalist in five years under head coach Bobby Muuss, also joining Jacori Hayes (2016) and Jack Harrison (2015), and the first repeat selection.

"Bruno is extremely deserving of this honor," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "He has worked hard all season and battled through stretches when he wasn't scoring goals to still make a huge impact on games for us. His growth and development over four years is a testament to the culture we've built here, as well as Bruno's own dedication to improve."

Lapa ranks fourth in the nation with six game-winning goals, including against ranked foes North Carolina and NC State, as well as both NCAA Tournament wins over Maryland and Michigan.

Three finalists for the award will be announced on Dec. 13 in conjunction with the College Cup. Winners will be announced on Jan. 3 at the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Banquet in St. Louis.
