Start Spreading the News, Deacon Nation!
We've had two great thrills in 24 hours beginning with Coach Bobby Muuss & the Demon Deacons men's soccer team's big win last night to punch our ticket to Wake Forest's sixth College Cup! The atmosphere inside Spry Stadium and on Alumni Hill was electric, with our fans earning the 2019 NCAA home attendance crown while they fueled Wake to the 1-0 win. Click here for tickets for Wake Forest's NCAA semifinal match against UVA on Friday, Dec. 13 at 8:30 p.m. and stay tuned for details on a big pre-game tailgate party. We need a big Black & Gold crowd to help the Deacs win and advance to Sunday's national championship match at 6:00 PM, also at Cary's WakeMed Soccer Park.
Then, just a few hours ago, at 3:36 p.m., I received a phone call from New York Yankees President Randy Levine and Pinstripe Bowl Executive Director Mark Holtzman inviting Wake Forest to play Michigan State of the Big 10 in the 10th annual New Era Pinstripe Bowl. I was honored to accept the invitation on behalf of President Hatch, Coach Clawson and our student-athletes. Gametime is 3:20 PM on Friday, Dec. 27 in one of the most iconic venues in the world, Yankee Stadium!
With an eighth Big Four Championship, a school-record 14 All-ACC players, and our most home wins ever already notched, Wake Forest football can now cap off an outstanding season with a ninth victory for only the third time in 118 years of college football. This is a special moment in time for Deacon Nation to showcase our collective pride and enjoy the holiday spirit in the Big Apple. And, it's a wonderful opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of New York City, a place many of our student-athletes, band, cheer and dance team members have never visited.
Because the Deacs were among the first schools to earn bowl eligibility this season, our athletics staff, and Alumni Engagement partners have had extra time to prepare to provide Wake Forest fans, students, alumni, parents, and friends with an outstanding bowl experience. You can click here to visit Wake Forest Bowl Central for details on tickets, travel packages, events, and more.
Whether by plane, train or automobile, just for game-day or for the whole week, the time is now to grab your Deacon friends and make plans to be in Yankee Stadium on December 27 and help build Wake Forest's growing bowl attendance reputation. By purchasing directly through the Wake Forest Ticket Office online or by calling 336-758-3322 ext. 1, you get great options for seating locations, guarantee your tickets, and help Wake Forest exceed its ticket allotment.
Wake Forest (8-4, 4-4 ACC) will be facing Michigan State (6-6, 4-5 Big Ten) for the first time in school history. The Spartans have been among the nation's elite programs, winning three Big Ten Championships this decade. In his 13th year, Spartans coach Mark Dantonio has compiled a 112-57 record, ranking 11th among active head coaches! And, on the mascot side, I believe the Deacon matches up pretty well with "Sparty!"
Finally, remember to spread Deacon bowl spirit worldwide by using the hashtag #NYCDeacs, showing off your pinstripes & NYC-related gear in social posts. Hit us up by tagging @DemonDeacons after you buy your tickets and make your travel plans!
Go Deacs!
