United Soccer Coaches honored Bruno Lapa, Alistair Johnston, Michael DeShields and Machop Chol.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Four Demon Deacons were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Teams, the organization announced on Monday afternoon.
Bruno Lapa and Alistair Johnston were picked to the first team, Michael DeShields was selected to the second team and Machop Chol was named to the third team.
"I'm proud of these four for all they've accomplished this year," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "All four are upperclassmen and looked up to by the rest of the team. They set the example on the training pitch every day and the result of their hard work has been increased success on the field. They're a big reason we're heading to the College Cup this weekend."
Lapa, a senior captain and MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, leads the team with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. He has scored six game-winning goals this season, which leads the ACC and ranks tied for fourth in the country.
Johnston, another senior captain, has tallied 11 points on three goals and five assists, including scoring the game-winner in the NCAA quarterfinal against UC Santa Barbara. He's also a part of a top-10 defense nationally.
That defense is anchored by DeShields, a redshirt junior center back. He has helped the Deacs record 10 shutouts while allowing less than 0.7 goals per game, also notching an assist and scoring the game-winning goal at Pitt.
Chol has been the team's top distributor this year, leading the squad with eight assists. He has also scored four goals, giving him a total of 16 points, third-most on the team.
No. 4 seed Wake Forest is set for its semifinal in the College Cup, a showdown against No. 1 seed Virginia on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
