Wake Forest will play six games this spring, including participating in the Spring College Program in conjunction with U.S. Soccer again.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's soccer team and Spry Stadium will once again be prominently featured in the Spring College Program in conjunction with U.S. Soccer, which has expanded to eight programs, as Wake Forest head coach Bobby Muuss announced a six-game spring schedule.
ACC foes Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech have joined the field which includes second-year participants Clemson, Duke, Georgetown, North Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest.
The eight schools will be split up into two divisions, North (Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech) and South (Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest). Each institution will play three matches and one playoff match against the coinciding seed from the opposite division in a one-day event at Wake Forest on April 13. The spring program will use a point system (3 points for win; 1 point for draw) to determine playoff seeding.
"We're excited to once again compete in the Spring College Program, as well as to host the final weekend," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "It benefits our program greatly, as well as all of college soccer, to have this partnership with U.S. Soccer. We can't wait for Spry Stadium to again be the epicenter of college soccer on April 13."
The rules for each game played will function similarly to U.S. Soccer Development Academy standards. Games will be played with traditional time keeping, seven substitutions over three moments in the game, and no re-entry.
The games will also provide an additional opportunity for U.S. Soccer scouts to identify potential U.S. Olympic and National Team players and expand the player pool.
In addition to the Spring College Program, Wake Forest will also be playing against NCAA Tournament qualifier UNC Wilmington under college rules, as well as an exhibition against the Vaughn Football Club out of Canada.
The five single games will be free admission. The finale of the Spring College Program which will feature four games at Spry Stadium on April 13 will cost $8 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors. Tickets are available for purchase by clicking HERE.
